Universal Cable (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd

Universal Cable (Sarawak) Sdn bhd, a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary of Sarawak Cable Berhad, commenced operations in 1980, which was initially in the business of trading of power cables and wires. In 1982, as part of our Company’s business expansion, our Company ventured into the manufacturing of power cables and wires focusing on low voltage single core power cables and wires with the capability to support power up to 1kV. Low voltage power cables and wires are mainly used for household and industrial wiring. In 1982, our Company started with a manufacturing capacity of 240 tonnes of low voltage single core power cables and wires, which gradually expanded to 8,829 tonnes over the period from 1982 to 2008. In 1991, our Company also started manufacturing low voltage multicore power cables and wires.

In the second quarter of 2007, our Company commenced operations in our new manufacturing plant in Demak Laut Industrial Estate Phase III, Kuching and began manufacturing high voltage bare conductors namely All Aluminium Alloy Conductors (AAAC) for transmission line. High voltage bare conductors are generally used for transmission and distribution lines. All of our Company’s manufacturing operations were subsequently transferred to our new manufacturing plant during the third quarter of 2008 and we subsequently commenced the manufacturing of Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) in our new manufacturing plant in October 2008. Our manufacturing plant in Demak Laut Industrial Estate Phase III, Kuching currently has seven (7) production lines. In November 2008, our Company expanded our operations by setting-up a branch office and warehouse in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Since the commencement of our Company’s operations in 1980, we have established ourselves as a reputable manufacturer of power cables and wires in East Malaysia.

Universal Cable (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd is also ISO 9001:2015 certified to achieve excellent quality in both our manufacturing process and end products.

Core business activities

Universal Cable (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd was incorporated on the 9th July 1980. Our core business activities are in the manufacture of power cables and wires. Our business activities also include trading of power cables and wires and supply, installation and commissioning of power cables. All products and services provided by our company are used in the transmission and distribution of electricity, from power generation plant to end-user residential, commercial, industrial and institutional premises. Our company operates from our head office and manufacturing plant in Demak Laut Industrial Estate Phase III, Kuching, Sarawak and our branch office in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The business activities of our Company are depicted as follows:

1. Power Cables and Wires

Currently our Company manufactures two (2) types of power cables and wires, which are low voltage power cables and wires and high voltage bare conductors. In addition to manufacturing power cables and wires, our business also includes trading of power cables and wires. We trade primarily medium and high voltage power cables with a rated capacity from 11kV up to 132kV.

Single core 300/500V and 600/1000V, PVC or XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed, copper or aluminium conductor

Single core 600/1000V, XLPE insulated, PVC extruded bedding, aluminium wire armoured, PVC sheathed, copper conductor

Single core 250/650V, PVC insulated, non-sheathed, aluminium conductor

Single core 600/1000V, bare or PVC insulated, non-sheathed, hard drawn copper conductor

Multicore 300/500V and 600/1000V, PVC or XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed, copper or aluminium conductor

Multicore 600/1000V, PVC or XLPE insulated, PVC sheet wrapped or PVC extruded bedding, steel wires armoured, PVC sheathed, copper and aluminium conductor

Twin twisted 450/750V and 600/1000V, PVC or XLPE insulated aluminium conductor wires which comprise two (2) separate single core wires twisted together
